Objective
- The student will be familiar with scholarly thinking, research methods and strategies.
- The student will know tools and methods of scientific research and is able to apply them in his/her Bachelor´s thesis.
- The student will be able to collect and analyze research data and use it target-oriented.
- The student will understand the requirements of scientific and qualitative research process and is able to choose the right research methods for problem solving.
- The student will be familiar with both the thesis process methodology and project communication requirements.
- The student will be able to make a research plan for his/her Bachelor´s thesis and correctly refer to used sources.
- The student will know the writing process in scientific research.
- The student will be able to validate his/her arguments.
- The student will be able to present and report his/her Bachelor´s thesis and she/he will know the ethics of scientific research.
Content
- Basics of research with an emphasis on the Bachelor's thesis process.
- Basics of methodology in final thesis process; main principal of scientific and qualitative research process.
- Reporting and presenting research and development work relevant to the student's own profession; project communication, writing thesis text and English abstract, use of references, data acquisition and management, argumentation and reasoning, scientific and development writing.
- Basics of scientific communication and writing.
- Ethical and critical use of references and ways of making references.
Qualifications
The appropriate number of completed study courses, which are considered sufficient for completing the thesis.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The capacity to formulate and understand relevant problems associated with the work is limited and therefore the problem solving and ability to apply theoretical studies to a practical work need to be improved.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The studies proceed coherently. The student is able to understand the basic motifs and challenges of the project and is able to apply theoretical studies and acquired skills to a practical work. The student understands the significance and causality of the work for his/her field of study.
The student works independently but there is still need for teacher’s further guidance. The student masters the complex of his/her work and has achieved a good level at her/his skills and knowledge.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The studies proceed coherently. The student is able to understand the basic motifs and challenges of the project and is able to apply theoretical studies and acquired skills to a practical work. The student understands the significance and causality of the work for his/her field of study. The course objectives have been achieved in a competent manner. The student masters the subject area and has achieved excellent level of knowledge and skills. The student is able to work independently. The student shows excellent theoretical and practical knowledge and is able to apply her/his knowledge following the established procedure of his/her field.

Further information
The course is implemented as a project-based learning. The starting point is learning through practical work. Student her-/himself has a role as an investigative learner.
