Objective

The student is familiar with the history and painting technique of historical tempera painting.
The student is familiar with the literature related to tempera painting, materials and tools for tempera painting, as well as working methods and is able to produce tempera paints.
The student is able to use the knowledge and skills he / she has obtained, to paint a small copy of the tempera painting of the era.

Content

Techniques of early painting; (wood support, chalk-glue gesso priming) on the basis of tempera paintings.
During the study course, each student paints a copy of a tempera painting, based on his / her own choice (mainly based on examples from 15th and 16th centuries).
Preparation of a painting support, using historical methods. Preparation and mixing of tempera paints and the correct use of historical painting technique.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student is able to outline the basic concepts of historical tempera painting techniques and materials and is familiar with the related theory at a basic level. The student skillfully masters the basics of the techniques and materials of historical tempera painting and understands the central content of the course. The student understands the necessary theoretical and applied principles related to the topic. The student is able to acquire information independently. The student does not fully manage the practical work.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student understands the basic ideas and concepts of historical tempera painting. The student demonstrates a good level of theoretical and applied knowledge related to tempera painting materials and techniques. The student is able to expertly justify the choices he / she has made, and the practical application is progressing consistently. The student masters the whole in both theory and practice and has achieved a good level of knowledge and skills. The student is able to acquire information independently and is able to critically analyse this information. The practical work has been sufficiently independent and the result is at a good level.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student masters the subject of historical tempera painting as a whole and has achieved an excellent level of knowledge and skills. The student demonstrates excellent theoretical and applied knowledge and is able to apply what he / she has learned to practical work. The student is able to acquire information independently and to analyse and apply information. The student participates in the discussion with arguments. The student is able to justify the choices he / she has made expertly and the practical application is progressing consistently. The student works consistently and independently, showing initiative. The student is able to work extensively independently on both written and skill-based assignments and the practical assignment is commendable.
