Objective

The student can analyse performances they have seen; they can identify, describe and connect the different elements of the performance, particularly from the perspective of live performance technology. The student understands the overall concept of scenography, including the elements of set design, lighting, costume, and sound design. The student identifies basic concepts related to the aesthetics of performances, such as genre, visuality and rhythm, and understands the impact of space on the performance. The student is familiar with the key features of contemporary performances and can identify dramaturgical structures in performances and other materials, in addition to texts. The student is familiar with key stakeholders in the Finnish performing arts industry and has a comprehensive understanding of the sector. The student is able to research, organize, and present information related to the history of live performance technology or the analysis of live performances.

Essentials of Performance Arts 1 (5 ECTS) or equivalent knowledge and skills.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student can analyse performances they have seen, identifying and describing the elements of the performance. The student can identify dramaturgical structures not only in texts but also in performances and other materials. The student understands the overall concept of scenography and the significance of set design, lighting, costume, and sound design in performances. The student identifies basic concepts related to the aesthetics of performances, such as genre, visuality and rhythm in general terms. The student is familiar with key stakeholders in the Finnish performing arts industry and the industry as a whole. The student is able to research, organise, and present information related to the history of live performance technology or the analysis of live performances, primarily independently.
