Objective

The student knows the main theories of media narration and construction of meaning, and can apply them to the analysis of media works. They know some of the ideologies and structures underlying media phenomena. They are able to develop their critical and analytical thinking. They can analyse the social meanings of media representations. They can identify and assess the diversity and representativeness of the media. They can present analytical findings in a clear and reasoned way. They are able to formulate and present an analysis of a media subject or phenomenon and critically justify their views with the help of theoretical literature.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student participates satisfactorily in class. They know some concepts of media narration and construction of meaning and can apply some of them to the analysis of media works. The student can analyse to some extent the structure and expression of media works and identify some of the social meanings of media representations. The student is able to develop and present an analysis of a media work or phenomenon.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student participates well in the classroom. The student has a good knowledge of the main theories of media narratives and the construction of meaning and can apply them to the analysis of media works. The student is able to analyse the structure and expression of media works and to critically evaluate the social meanings of media representations and their relation to their professional practice. Students can develop and present an analysis of a media work or phenomenon and justify their views with the help of theoretical literature.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student's participation is excellent. The student has an excellent knowledge of the main theories of media narration and the construction of meaning and is able to apply them to the analysis of media works. The student is able to analyse the structure and expression of media works in a versatile way, and to critically and comprehensively assess the social meanings of media representations and their relationship to their own professional activity and field of work. The student is able to prepare and present a comprehensive analysis of a media work or phenomenon, to critically justify their views with the help of theoretical literature, and to assess the relationship of the issue under consideration to their own professional activity and field of work.
