Objective
The student
• is able to name the most common viruses and parasites and the infectious diseases they cause
• is able to identify the most common properties and structures of clinically significant viruses and parasites
• identifies factors affecting their growth contributing to the onset of infectious diseases, and their epidemiology
• is familiar with methods and techniques used to identify viruses and parasites, and understands their principles
• is able to assess pre-analytical factors related to clinical virology and mycology and to use this information in their work
• understands factors contributing to the reliability of the results
• identifies the importance of quality control and is able to adhere to it in virology and parasitology examinations
• understands the importance of genetics in virology and parasitology examinations
• identifies the most commonly used antimicrobial drugs
• is able to work safely and aseptically and understands the principles of occupational and patient safety.
