Objective

The student will be familiar with scholarly thinking, research methods and strategies. The student knows tools and methods of scientific research and is able to apply them in his/her Bachelor´s thesis. The student is able to collect and analyze research data and use it target-oriented. The student understands the requirements of scientific and qualitative research process and is able to choose the right research methods for problem solving. The student will be familiar with both the thesis process methodology and project communication requirements.
The student will be able to make a research plan for his/her Bachelor´s thesis and correctly refer to used sources. The student knows the writing process in scientific research. The student is able to validate his/her arguments. The student will be able to present and report his/her Bachelor´s thesis and knows the ethics of scientific research.

Content

Basics of research with an emphasis on the Bachelor's thesis process.
Basics of methodology in final thesis process; main principal of scientific and qualitative research process.
Reporting and presenting research and development work relevant to the student's own profession; project communication, writing thesis text and English abstract, use of references, data acquisition and management, argumentation and reasoning, scientific and development writing.
Basics of scientific communication and writing.
Ethical and critical use of references and ways of making references.

Prerequisites

Documentation Photography course or equivalent course in communication.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student understands the difference between common and scientific thinking. The student recognizes the basic ideas of the course and the meaning of scientific thinking for his/her professional field. The student is familiar with scientific methods, terminology, research process and understands their importance for his/her own research project but needs support in proper application of these methods. The student understands the requirements of research communication and the meaning of them for his/her thesis. The student is able to present and write her/his work after instruction and feedback. The student is able to collect data from professional sources. The student understands how to use existing scientific data but needs support in ethical and critical use of sources.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student understands the difference between common and scientific thinking. The student understands the basic ideas of the course and the meaning of scientific thinking for his/her professional field. The student knows methods and terminology of scientific research and understands the nature of qualitative research process. The student knows the requirements of research communication and the meaning of them for his/her thesis. The student is able to use methods and tools of scientific research in his oral and written presentation. The student is able to collect data from diverse scientific and professional sources. The student is able to use scientific data of his/her own field ethically and critically.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student has achieved the course objectives fully. The student masters the topics of the course and is able to carry out his/her work independently according to the principles of scientific thinking. The student is able to apply and critically evaluate scientific methods and tools and use them appropriately. The student masters the requirements of scientific communication. The student is able to make goal-oriented and professional written and oral presentation by using different text types and presentation tools according to given instructions. The student is able to collect diverse professional data. The student is able to use and apply critically and ethically sources and scientific data of his/her own field of expertise in his/her professional communication.
