Objective

The student is familiar with the fundamentals of organic reaction mechanisms and can deduce the reaction products formed in organic reactions based on them.
The student understands how reaction mechanisms are utilized in the design and implementation of syntheses.
The student is knowledgeable about the basics of qualitative analysis of organic compounds, understands the operating principles of IR, MS, and NMR instruments, and can interpret spectroscopic data.
The student is familiar with the laboratory techniques of organic chemistry.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student:
1. knows the basics of IR and MS spectroscopic measurements, the operating principles of instruments, and various sample preparation techniques.
2. can utilize IR, MS, and NMR spectra to identify some simple organic compounds.
3. is capable of performing IR and MS measurements and preparing reports that include the required sections.
4. understands how different functional groups react, the fundamentals of reaction mechanisms, and how the structure of a compound influences the course of a reaction.
5. knows the fundamentals of organic chemistry laboratory techniques.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student:
1. understands the basics of IR and MS spectroscopic measurements, the operating principles of instruments, and various sample preparation techniques
2. can utilize IR, MS, and NMR spectra to identify the structure of a simple unknown compound
3. works carefully and purposefully during measurements and can independently draw conclusions. The report is clear in structure and language.
4. knows how different functional groups react and their reaction mechanisms, as well as how the structure of a compound affects the course of a reaction.
5. understands the fundamentals of organic chemistry laboratory techniques.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student:
1. can assess the impact of different methods, sample techniques, and instrument parameters on measurements in IR and MS spectroscopy, as well as understands various sample preparation techniques.
2. can utilize IR, MS, and NMR spectra to identify the structure of a complex unknown compound.
3. works independently, proactively, and purposefully. Can plan and schedule their work effectively. The language and results discussed in the report are excellent.
4. can deduce the resulting product by considering the different reaction patterns of functional groups, reaction mechanisms, compound structure, and reagents.
5. can apply the learned organic lab skills
