Objective

The aim of the course is to deepen the knowledge acquired in the Basic Studies in Engineering Mathematics course. Students will learn to understand how physics phenomena are related to laboratory analysis and how to use mathematical methods in laboratory analysis.

Content

• Basics of derivatives and integrals in a laboratory context
• Concept of probability and basic rules of calculation, random variables and their most common distributions in a laboratory context, confidence intervals
• Use of Excel or any other program in relation to laboratory applications
• Quantities, units and unit conversions
• Kinematics; linear motion
• Dynamics; Newton's laws of motion 1 - 3
• Circular motion
• Energy and power
• Pressure
• Fluid and gas flow
• Temperature, thermal expansion and heat transfer
• Electric current and simple DC circuits (Ohm's law)

Basic Studies in Engineering Mathematics

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Students will identify the basic concepts and phenomena of mathematics and physics and be able to solve simple problems related to them.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Students will be able to apply the basic concepts and phenomena of mathematics and physics to problems in basic science and engineering.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Students will be able to apply the basic concepts and phenomena of mathematics and physics to more demanding problems in science and technology.
