Descriptions

The Construction Information Technology degree programme focuses on the information technology solutions specific to the built environment, such as building information modeling, digital twins, computational design, common data environments, and data gathering from existing buildings through scanning and sensor technologies.

In this programme the IT topics are integrated into the study of structural design and other aspects of construction. In addition to providing structural design skills, the programme prepares the students to tackle the future needs and challenges within the construction industry due to the digital and green transitions as well as changing building and land use regulations. This programme provides cutting edge know-how in order to prepare the student for future employment opportunities in the rapidly changing construction industry.

During the studies, the students complete internships that offer an opportunity to apply what they have learned in practical work situations. The students can also participate in international student exchange programmes at one of Metropolia's many partner universities. Internships can also be completed abroad.

Development

The contents of the programme have been developed in collaboration with the software industry specialised in the construction industry, professional associations for real estate and construction, and innovative construction companies with software development interests. The continuing relevance of the content is ensured through a steering group formed of these stakeholder groups.
