Objective

The student

• is able to critically and theoretically analyse and justify the basis of their actions

The language and language awareness objectives of the course (Finnish) are selected according to the student's individual language proficiency level

A2: Students become familiar with the communication environment and communication situations of the workplace. They recognise the different communication roles of a professional and the goals of communication in different situations. They can interpret oral communication situations using extra-lingual cues (e.g. tone of voice, gestures, facial expressions, body language, length of speeches, participants, communication environment, duration of the situation), and can extract frequently repeated words from the speech stream (greetings, key words related to situations, introductions, explanations) and use them in their own speech. Students participate in a conversation in Finnish in predictable and routine situations (greetings, inquiries about how things are, introductions, reporting, descriptions).

B1: Students become familiar with the communication environment and communication situations of the workplace. They can act in various communication situations and participate in conversations at the workplace. Students can act fluently in routine communication situations. They can also follow and act in ordinary communication situations with relative ease, even if they do not participate in them as an active communicator.

B2: Students actively participate in communication situations at the workplace. They can act appropriately in various communication situations and actively and proactively participate in conversations at the workplace. Students can act as a support for the language learner in routine communication situations. They can also act fairly easily in more complex communication situations and actively and proactively participate in them.

C1 – C2 (also native Finnish speakers): Students become familiar with the communication environment and communication situations at the workplace. They can act appropriately and linguistically in various communication situations, using plain language and the communication environment. Students actively and proactively participate in conversations at the workplace and are able to act independently as a support for the language learner in communication situations at the workplace.

Qualifications

The student has completed approximately 165 ECTS of studies, including Work Placement and Language Internship 3: Client Work in the Service System and Finnish for Work in the Social Sector or the student has at least a B1 level in Finnish.

Further information

Language training supports students' language learning (at levels A2–B2) and language-aware working approach (at levels C1–C2). Students assess their Finnish language skills using a self-assessment tool before and after the training as part of their language personal language study plan (PLSP).

The internship of early childhood education and care students must be carried out in an early childhood education environment.
