Objective

After completing the course, the students can communicate skillfully in Finnish in their work environment and relate to field-specific or general professional information in writing and speaking. The students can identify the difference between formal and informal styles and understand both field-specific and general professional texts. They can also discuss and write clear and structured work related or general texts (e.g. report, essay, memo). The students know how to improve their language skills independently. The students’ communication skills will correspond to the skill level B1.2-B2.1 as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Content

Oral and written interactions in work life (phone calls and e-mail communication; client service situations; reporting, presenting; negotiations and meetings). Language register (differences between formal and informal language forms).Understanding and producing texts related to work life, professional field and studies. Broadening the professional vocabulary. Reviewing the basic structures of the Finnish language (constructing and combining sentences (participles and non-finite clauses). Producing text and language guidance. Strengthening the learning strategies.

Prerequisites

Previous knowledge of Finnish on the B1 level .
Starting level: B1.1-B1.2
Target level: B1.2-B2.1
