The Master’s degree programme capacitates a student for further education (licenciate/doctorate). Universities may require some additional studies.

Specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning

According to the Degree Regulations of Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences students may apply for identification and accreditation of prior learning as part of their compulsory or optional studies, provided they have prior learning corresponding to the curriculum before the course in question begins.

Profile of the programme

Leadership within the health care sector is currently influenced by organisational changes, complexity of working settings, rapid turnover of staff and evolving legislation. Therefore, the programme primarily aims at the achievement of advanced leadership competence supported by development and business competence.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples

The objective is to provide students with the competence for development and leadership in professional life and the necessary theoretical information needed for demanding expert tasks in their field of study.

Key learning outcomes

The objective of the studies is to provide students:
- in-depth view of the specific field in question, its position in the workplace environment and social significance
- the ability to apprehend and follow up research knowledge and development of professional practices in one’s own field
- vast and detailed knowledge of the field to develop the work environment
- the necessary theoretical knowledge to enable working in expert and leadership positions
- the ability to embrace life-long learning and constant development of one’s own professionalism
- communication and language skills required in work life
- readiness for international interaction and professional activities

A student is required to successfully complete the designated program of courses.

Obligatory or Optional Mobility

International studies are part of the learning path of each learner in the form of international studies in English or Finnish master’s degree programmes or open studies in international network learning environments.

Specific admission requirements

The applicants need to fulfil these requirements:
- an appropriate higher education degree or an appropriate Finnish post-secondary higher vocational qualification
- at least two years of work experience.

Examination regulations, assessment and grading

According to the Degree Regulations of Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences course assessment criteria are specified in the course implementation plan. The teacher in charge of the course will be responsible for the assessment. Students must be informed at the beginning of the course on the assessment principles, which must be based on the course objectives. Assessment takes primarily place for each course and applies to the students who have registered and been accepted on the course. If necessary, different components of a course may be assessed individually. If the course consists of several components, the teacher may point this out in the assessment principles contained in the implementation plan.
The assessment scale is as follows: excellent (5), very good (4), good (3), very satisfactory (2), satisfactory (1), fail (0) and pass (P). Any deviations of this scale will be decided by the President.
