Descriptions

The Master’s Degree Programme in Fashion and Clothing strengthens the student’s competencies in responsible product management and competitiveness, as well as strategic procurement skills. The student can anticipate, develop and lead the product and quality management processes, and other projects in their own field.

During the studies, the student develops their brand expertise for expert and management positions in the international clothing industry.

The student draws up a Personal Study Plan (PSP). Based on the PSP, the student can choose 5 ECTS of master-level electives either from Metropolia or from other higher education institutions.

The Master’s Thesis is a development project commissioned by the fashion industry. It increases the student’s analytical and methodical abilities in renewing organizations and brands.

Objective

In addition to the common learning outcomes for Metropolia’s master’s degrees (13.9.2019, attached), the degree programme has set the following learning outcomes:

PROFESSIONAL STUDY COMPETENCIES

1. Responsible Product Management
The student:
• knows the connections of society and its organizations to the different sectors of sustainable development.
• can evaluate the ecological, social and economic effects of the clothing industry’s basic functions.
• knows how individuals and societies can influence the development of responsibility in the clothing industry.
• can forecast and lead the processes of clothing industry with an emphasis on responsibility.
• can integrate responsible leadership into business.
• can advance the principles of equality and transparency in a work community.

2. Brand Management
The student:
• can lead and take responsibility of the goal-directed development of a community.
• can evaluate the development perspectives and needs of a brand.
• can evaluate and develop their own expertise in a diverse and purposeful way.

3. Management of Competitiveness
The student:
• interpret, produce and utilize new information as well as renew practices by combining expertise from different fields.
• use research and development methods.
• lead projects as well as research, development and innovation projects.
• develop and lead customer-driven, sustainable and financially profitable operations.
• be active in a global business-to-business marketing network, serving in responsible product management and leadership positions.
• apply product and production management processes to serve different cultures.
• understand the importance of the supplier network in the actualization of the products’ quality-price ratio.
• develop the quality of products in collaboration with outsourcing partners.
• define the desired quality in products and services.
• take into account the different regulations and detailed specifications in product instructions.
• manage products in international e-commerce.
