Master's Degree in Music prepares students for expert positions in demanding leadership, research and
developmental positions in the music industry and music education.

Graduates with a Master’s degree in Music Performance or Music Pedagogy have a great aptitude for
lifelong learning, good communication and interpersonal skills, and in-depth expertise in their
area of specialization. Depending on their work experience and interests, students can focus on
artistic, pedagogical or administrative studies, or a combination of all these.

Studying is organized as a combination of contact and remote teaching, which allows the
students to study alongside working. Each student receives a Personal Study Plan to support their individual development. The studies consist of expert lectures and workshops, peer group learning, collaborative learning and individual tutoring.

The general objectives of the degree are:
1. Development of the expertise required in music education and the music industry.
2. Strengthening of the leadership skills needed in developmental processes in music education and music industry.
3. Implementation of innovative learning and developmental processes.
4. Supporting the developmental processes of new or specialized areas in the music industry.

Development

Curriculum development and collaboration with industry partners is based on the international competency descriptions outlined by the Erasmus / Polifonia network and published by Association Européenne des Conservatoires (AEC).

Curriculum development is being carried out by members of the Music Department faculty, Metropolia Master's degree network and the Professional Advisory Board for the Music Department, as well as Master's degree students and representatives of the music industry. The curriculum is being developed through an anticipatory, continuous and systematic process.
