Descriptions
The programme is targeted for professionals in working life aspiring to become Masters in Information Technology. The studies are designed and implemented in such a way that students in full-time employment can participate. The prerequisite for participation is a Bachelor level degree in engineering and at least two years of working life experience. There is no entrance exam. The student selection is based on two preliminary assignments, see the details in the application pages.
The degree consists of professional studies (30 ECTS) and a Master’s thesis project (30 ECTS). The studies consist of lectures, laboratory work, workshops, assignments, and projects as well as independent study. Professional studies (6 courses) are planned to be completed in the first year and the second year (autumn) is reserved for the Master's thesis. The thesis is usually completed in cooperation with the student's employer.
The programme is divided into two fields of specialisation, to be chosen during the application process: Networking and Services, and Medical Technology. The professional studies are offered at Karamalmi campus (Networking and Services) or Myllypuro campus (Medical Technology) with the following timetable: autumn weeks 35-50 and spring weeks 3-19.
Networking and Services
The Research Methods and Skills course provides the student with the required knowledge to prepare and facilitate a high quality Master’s thesis. The advanced professional courses give a broad and up-to-date knowledge on this fast developing field of networked applications. The courses include topics such as Cyber Security, Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence. A more detailed description can be found in the Learning Path.
Medical Technology
Medical technology is a steadily growing field of technology in Finland. Medical Technology professional studies focus on medical devices including software. Studies are tailored for professionals working in business, industry and the public sector, who want to deepen their knowledge, skills and competences in medical technology to seize new career opportunities in the future. Studies enable novel career prospects for professionals with previous degrees in, for example, ICT, automation, electronics or electrical engineering. Development
The curriculum has been developed and updated in such a way that it corresponds to the latest challenges faced in ICT and medical technology and gives both theoretical and practical knowledge on the latest technologies and tools.
