Descriptions

The program is targeted for professionals in working life wishing to become a Master in Information Technology. Studies are designed and implemented in such a way that students in full-time employment can participate. Prerequisite for participation is a bachelor level degree in engineering and at least two years of working life experience is required. There is no entrance exam. The student selection is based on two preliminary assignments, see details in application pages.

The degree consists of Professional Studies (30 ECTS credits) and Master’s thesis project (30 ECTS credits). Studies consist of lectures, laboratory work, workshops, assignments, and projects as well as independent studying. The Professional Studies (6 courses) are planned to be completed in the first year and the second year (autumn 2022) is reserved for the Master's thesis. The thesis is usually completed in cooperation with your employer.

The program is divided into two fields of specialization which is also asked in the application process: Networking and Services, and Medical Technology. The professional studies are offered at the Karamalmi campus (Networking and Services) and online (Medical Technology) with following timetable: autumn weeks 35-50 and spring weeks 3-19.

Networking and Services
The Research Methods and Skills course provides you the required knowledge to prepare and facilitate a high quality Master’s thesis. The advanced professional courses gives a broad and up-to-date knowledge on this fast developing field of networked applications. Courses include topics such as Cyber Security, Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence. More detailed description can be found under Learning Path.

Medical Technology
Medical technology is steadily growing field of technology in Finland. Medical Technology Professional studies focus on medical devices including software. Studies are tailored for professionals working in business, industry and public sector, who want to deepen their knowledge, skills and competences in medical technology to capture new career opportunities for the future. Studies enable novel career prospects for professionals, with previous degree for example from ICT, automation, electronics or electrical engineering. Description

Introduction The Networking and Services learning path focuses on the challenges and latest solutions of communication networks and services provided by them. Cybersecurity related threads and counter measures are one of those important aspect of modern communication networks. Various solutions offered by Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are also covered in the program. Content The Networking and Services learning path extent is 60 ECTS and it is divided into courses (30 ECTS) and Master’s thesis (30 ECTS). The learning path includes six courses. The Research Methods and Skills course provides you the required knowledge to prepare and facilitate a high quality Master’s Thesis. The lectures on Trends in ICT -course are given by professionals from highly esteemed companies in the field of ICT and will provide you with a good understanding of the current status of the business and the challenges the industry is facing. Cyber Security gives an insight into existing and emerging technologies and challenges faced in this increasingly important field. The IT Project Management provides understanding on how to conduct a successful IT project from business, technical and ethical point of view. The Internet of Things (IoT) course extends this knowledge into internetworking of devices to collect and exchange data to form “the infrastructure of the information society”. The Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning course will provide students with an overview of recent developments in AI with emphasis on machine learning and reinforcement learning. Competence Essential competence achieved in Networking and Services learning path is: 1) To give a broad view of current challenges and solutions in the field, 2) Up-to-date knowledge on selected topics, and 3) Applying learned knowledge and skills in practice. Implementation The Networking and Services learning path is implemented in the following way. The first study year (autumn 2021 - spring 2022) focuses on the above-mentioned courses, and planning and conducting Master’s thesis. There will be face-to-face teaching twice per week (one evening and one afternoon plus evening). Second study year (autumn 2022) focuses on finalizing Master’s thesis and there will be online workshops once a month.
