Descriptions
Master’s Programme in Business Informatics is a degree program for business and engineering professionals who want to deepen their strategic and managerial expertise via improved management skills, improved digital skills, and better use of business information systems. The degree aims to prepare participants to address the challenges of digitalization and digital transformation in business and working life.
The student will become a competent analyzer of business information and a user of business analytics for decision-making in management, operations, and development. The student will get familiar with key concepts in business analytics and business transformation, as well as learn how to collect, interpret and analyze data to craft the answers to business critical questions. The students will also learn how to apply business development methods to drive business transformation.
Thus, the Programme has a strong emphasis on improving general management skills for managers of technology-driven companies for the Digital era.
The Programme consists of four elements:
• Business Strategy and Management, 15 ECTS module (3 courses)
• Business Analysis and Development, 15 ECTS module (2 course)
• Master's Thesis 30 ECTS.
As a Master’s Thesis (final project), each student plans and implements a Research & Development project conducted in a real business context, typically at own place of work. When working on this project, the student applies their research, business development, and project management skills, as well as leadership, team and networking skills, thus combining development work (typically done to benefit own place of work) with research.
Development
The Programme started in 2011 and was renewed in 2017, 2020 and subsequently in 2022 in cooperation with business companies, business professionals and alumni, and as a joint effort of the Business School and Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. The Programme includes two “sister streams”, both titled as Master’s degree programmes in Business Informatics: (1) the Engineering stream (requires 60 ECTS to complete the Programme) leading to the degree “Master of Engineering”, and (2) the Business stream (requires 90 ECTS to complete the Programme) leading to the degree” Master of Business Administration”.
International partner of the Master’s Programme in Business Informatics hosts a short study trip at the end of 1st year of studies (optional). Metropolia UAS also offers various other collaborations to provide internationalization opportunities for Master’s students (exchange studies, etc). Also the international student- and faculty group provides the students with a good insight into multicultural and diverse development opportunities.
Further information
When studying on a part-time basis, the student can achieve the Master’s degree in 1,5 years. Contact sessions take place on every 2nd Friday, approximately twice a month. Also, altogether 4 Wednesday evenings will be used for the Master’s Thesis seminars (over the 1st year spring and 2nd year autumn semesters). 1-2 courses will be done in the form of e-learning. The language of instruction is English.
