Descriptions

Radiographer (Bachelor’s Degree)

The purpose of the Degree Programme in Radiography and Radiotherapy is evidence-based radiography and radiotherapy experts. Radiographers graduating from this degree programme practice evidence-based medicine. Lifelong learning, ethics, being able to contribute to the work community, innovativeness and international expertise are key aspects of radiographers’ work.
Radiographers provide and develop high-quality imaging and radiotherapy services.
Radiographers conduct examinations and give treatment, look after the patient and perform clinical procedures. They must also be familiar with radiation protection issues and engage in research, development and innovation. Radiographers’ core areas of expertise have been divided into a number of themes in the curriculum.

The studies proceed as follows: first-year students take courses in basic facts and skills in health care, laying the foundation for the core requirements of radiography and radiotherapy work that take place in the second year. Third-year students take more advanced courses in radiography and radiotherapy. In the fourth year, students deepen their professional development and also learn about how to develop the field.

The Degree Programme in Radiography and Radiotherapy adheres to Metropolia’s general pedagogic guidelines and evidence-based pedagogics. During their studies, the students will learn to make use of the best available research evidence as well as views received from experts and patients in their problem-solving, and to use this method in their lifelong learning.

Specific requirements
A customer’s radiography and radiotherapy work is usually carried out as individual or several short imaging examinations and treatment procedures, which means that the radiographer must be able to grasp the entire chain of patient care and to engage in multiprofessional teamwork.

Today’s health care customers come from a wide range of cultural backgrounds and it is a challenge for the health care system to respond to their various needs. Radiographers must be able to respond to customer needs and base their decisions and actions on the best available information. Medical engineering is developing at a fast rate, which means that health care professionals must be prepared and have the ability to engage in lifelong learning.

Profession and work duties
Radiographers perform imaging examinations and administer radiotherapy in cooperation with other health care professionals. In radiology and radiotherapy units, the radiographer assumes joint responsibility for patient care. In companies that serve the health care sector, the radiographer's duties focus on product development, marketing and training. Radiographers may also work in expert positions concerning the use of radiation.

Development

Lääketieteellisiä opintoja luennoivat lääkärit, joita on erittäin vaikea saada meillä töihin. Tästä syystä emme halua lisätä opetuksen organisoinnin ongelmia heidän kohdallaan. Samassa tentissä on mahdotonta tenttiä esim. anestesiologiaa, farmakologiaa, gerontologiaa, kirurgiaa, lastentauteja, sisätauteja, psykiatriaa, synnytysoppia jne.
