Ennen opintojakson aloittamista opiskelijalla täytyy olla suoritettuna Kliininen hoitotyö, Pitkäaikaisesti sairastuneiden hoitotyö, Akuutti hoitotyö: teoria ja harjoittelu sekä Lääkehoito 1 ja Lääkehoito 2, Gerontologinen hoitotyö - teoria.
