Objective
The student knows the basics of plant design and understands their significance for the chemical and process industries. He understands the know-how required at different design stages and is able to determine the technical and financial performance of the process.
The student will learn how to make layout plans and identify the input data needed to begin plant / pipeline design.
Content
1. Basics of plant design
2. Introduction to 3D design systems
3. Legislation concerning pipelines
4. Relevant standards
5. Layout planning
6. Block, process, flow and PI diagrams
7. Different stages of process design
8. Basics of profitability and investment calculation
Evaluation scale
0-5
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The student is able to define and describe the concepts and phenomena included in the course in a qualitative way and to compute straightforward problems.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The student is able to understand and define or describe the concepts and phenomena discussed in the course in his own words; he also knows how to explain the origin and meaning of related equations and to critically evaluate the solutions obtained when solving related problems.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student is able to characterize and model phenomena discussed in the course on the basis of reasonable assumptions, as well as to analyze, evaluate and modify solutions for related problems and the underlying model when needed.
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
The student is able to define and describe the concepts and phenomena included in the course in a qualitative way and to compute straightforward problems.
