Introduction to the Basics of Visual Communication (2 cr)

Objective

The student understands the communicative functions and specific features of different graphic products (poster and game board with its ancillary products). The student will be able to communicate with images, text and their interaction.

Identifying and using graphic design genres in communication
Brainstorming and problem-solving skills
Management of the publishing environment
Use of typography to convey a message
Saving a file in a format according to instructions

Johdatus visuaalisen viestinnän perusteisiin on hakijoille maksuton. Opintojakson tarkempi ohjeitus, tehtävänannot, materiaalit sekä arviointikriteerit löytyvät vain OMA työtilasta.

Opintojakso tehdään itsenäisesti aikavälillä 24.2.-25.3.2025. Opintojakso koostuu useista eri osioista. Kaikki opintojakson osat tulee olla suoritettuina hyväksytyksi opintojakson toteutusaikana, jotta koko suoritus voidaan hyväksyä. Opintojakson hyväksytysti suorittaneet saavat Metropolian avoimen ammattikorkeakoulun kautta 2 op. laajuisen suoritusmerkinnän. Suoritus sisällytetään osaksi opintoja niille hakijoille, jotka tulevat valituksi Visuaalisen viestinnän muotoilun pääaineeseen.

Muista hakea myös yhteishaussa Opintopolun kautta. Ilman virallista hakemusta ei voi tulla kutsutuksi valintakokeeseen. Johdatus visuaalisen viestinnän perusteisiin -opintojakson suoritus ei yksinään oikeuta pääsyyn valintakokeeseen ilman virallista yhteishakua. Opintojakson voi myös suorittaa avoimen ammattikorkeakoulun kautta ilman, että hakee yhteishaussa opiskelemaan Visuaalisen viestinnän muotoilua.

Students will be able to communicate with images, text and their interaction, using the tools they consider appropriate. Students will be able to apply their graphic design skills in practice. Students will complete all course assignments with a pass. The student will demonstrate the ability to use the teaching material provided in the assignments.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Students can communicate with images, text and their interaction in an interesting way, using the tools they consider appropriate. Students will be able to apply their graphic design skills in practice. Students will complete all course assignments with a high level of competence and competence. The student will demonstrate the ability to use the teaching material provided in the assignments, demonstrating creative problem solving skills. Students will return assignments on time.

Qualifications

There are no prerequisites for the course. If a student is applying to study in the Visual Communication Design major of the Design degree programme, the student must be eligible to apply for admission to the University of Applied Sciences.
