Objective

Students
- can apply the theoretical and clinical competence required by the clinical practice environment to the nursing care of clients/patients
- are competent in the necessary procedures and diagnostic examinations as part of the holistic patient care in their clinical practice environment
- can maintain and promote the health of clients/patients and their significant others in a client-oriented way in nursing care
- follow the ethical guidelines and principles of nursing
- act as responsible members of their multiprofessional work group and work community

Content

Clinical Practice in nursing environment

Location and time

The course will run throughout the year 2025.
The student will agree with the course instructor (study guidance supervisor: Terhi Lehtonen) on how to complete the course.
The student will receive instructions from the course instructor for completing the written assignment.
Allow yourself enough time to write at least a five-page written assignment

Teaching methods

This implementation is intended for nursing students who hold a practical nurse diploma and receive partial credit for Clinical Nursing Practice 1.
Recognition of prior learning will be supplemented with a written learning assignment and a discussion with the student's practice supervisor.

Clinical Nursing Practice 1

Student workload

The course is worth 8 ECTS credits, which includes the skills demonstrated on the diploma, a supplementary written assignment, and a discussion with the student's practice supervisor.
Written assignment: 16 hours.

Further information

Students who have completed the following competency areas under the practical nurse qualification will receive partial credit for Clinical Nursing Practice 1:

Nursing and care as well as emergency care competencies, and the competencies in: mental health and substance abuse work, child and youth care and education, elderly care, disability work, and rehabilitation.
It is possible to receive a maximum of two directives approved through this implementation, and further details will be provided during the orientation. Receiving a directive requires a minimum of 200 hours of work experience after completing the practical nurse qualification. The required hours must be documented with a work certificate.

Assessment methods and criteria

The learning assignment must be completed successfully.
Evaluation criteria have been developed for the assignment, and they can be found in the assignment instructions.
In addition, the student must have a discussion with their practice supervisor.
