Objective

Learning outcomes
After completing the course unit, the student is able to:
- define the concept of innovation
- name the key stages of the design process
- explain the concept of teamwork and the key themes related to its success
- describe the inner development goals (IDGs) related to thinking that promotes sustainable
development (SDGs)
- experiment with foresight methods in planning the development of their skills
- write key reflections in textual form
- develop their skills in identifying and acknowledging their own competences.

- Concept of innovation
- Basics of teamwork
- Concepts of sustainable development and sustainable development change skills and their
reflection tasks
- Stages of the design process and how to test them
- Identifying and recognising own competences
- Future-oriented development of own competences

Location and time

Metropolia Minno® 1 course is completed entirely independently on the Moodle online platform.

Materials

Learning materials, recommended literature, links, and sources are available on the Metropolia Minno® 1 course online platform.

Teaching methods

The online course work includes videos and written materials, learning tasks related to the videos, a test, a learning journal, and providing and receiving peer feedback. The course is bilingual (Finnish / English).

Exam schedules

The exam on the Metropolia Minno® 1 online course can be retaken three times.

The course is worth 2 ects, equivalent to 54 hours of student work.

The students successfully complete the course when they are able to
- apply the key stages of the design process in problem-solving
- clearly describe the key themes essential for successful teamwork
- examine inner development goals in relation to their own competences and understand their
connection to thinking that promotes sustainable development goals
- apply foresight methods in a practical task and demonstrate an understanding of their use in
developing personal competences
- write clear, structured reflections that adhere to the task requirements
- identify and acknowledge their own competences.

The course is assessed on a pass/fail scale.

The course is assessed on a pass/fail scale.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The students successfully complete the course when they are able to
- apply the key stages of the design process in problem-solving
- clearly describe the key themes essential for successful teamwork
- examine inner development goals in relation to their own competences and understand their
connection to thinking that promotes sustainable development goals
- apply foresight methods in a practical task and demonstrate an understanding of their use in
developing personal competences
- write clear, structured reflections that adhere to the task requirements
- identify and acknowledge their own competencies.

The course is failed when the students are unable to:
- apply the key steps of the design process in problem solving
- adequately explain the key themes of successful teamwork
- describe sustainable development change skills in relation to their own competences or
understand their link to sustainable development
- use foresight methods or they are significantly lacking in their application
- reflect in a clear, structured manner corresponding to the task
- review competence development or their examination is one-sided
- identify and recognise their own competences.

Assessment methods and criteria

Pass: The course is passed when you can demonstrate that you have grasped the key principles of the course and achieve a passing grade on the exam. You are able to assess your own skills as well as give and receive peer feedback. You have completed the learning tasks on the Moodle platform.

Fail: The course is failed if you have not clarified the basic principles of the course, do not pass the exam, and have not completed the learning tasks on the Moodle platform.

Qualifications

Ability to learn in Finnish or in English.
