Objective

The student
•.is familiar with the basic concepts of visual communication
• is able to analyse the influence of visual communication in society
• is able to analyse and define the special features of visual communication
• knows the main theories related to the production and reception of the meanings of visual communication
• is able to understand the social dimensions of their professional activities
• recognises a visual designer in the themes of sustainable development and cultural diversity
• perceives the field of visual communication design and their role as a designer through communication theories.

• Basic concepts of visual communication
• Theories about the relationship between the media and the society
• Cultural roles of visual communication in society
• Special features of visual communication
• Sustainable development and the ethics of visual communication

Implementation in accordance with room reservations in class or remotely.

In addition to teacher-led meetings, the implementation has independent individual and small group tasks to be completed between meetings. Calendar reservations for independent work have also been marked for the implementation.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student
• demonstrates partial knowledge of key concepts in visual communication
• is able to acquire source material related to visual communication
• is able to reflect narrowly on the social role of visual communication
• recognises in part the special features related to visual communication in the formation of meanings and is able to analyse individual visual representations on a small scale, partly based on theoretical material.
• is able to name some ethical challenges in the field.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student
• is able to acquire source material appropriate for visual communication
• is familiar with the selected theoretical subject and concepts
• is able to apply theoretical material in the analysis of visual communication materials
• is able to review the role of visual communication in society and consider the possible cultural implications of visual representations
• demonstrates an understanding of the specific features of visual communication in terms of meaning formation
• is able to consider the ethical challenges of the field and the responsibility issues of a visual communication designer from a professional point of view.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student
• can independently acquire, evaluate and use a wide range of visual communication sources
• can apply theoretical material in the analysis of visual communication materials and use concepts fluently
• is able to examine from different perspectives the role of visual communication in society and the potential cultural impact of visual representations
• is able to analyse the specific features of visual communication in terms of meaning formation in a wide range of contexts
• is able to reflect on ethical challenges and professional responsibilities in the field of visual communication in a multi-level and proactive way
• is able to critically examine their own values and attitudes and to understand their complex relationship with the work of visual communication designers.
