Objective
A student learns to model and simulate various phenomena and to master related computational methods and software. Skills achieved in the two previous courses of this 15-credit elective come to the use in this course. Relativity is studied in the physics of this course. A student with a successful completion of the course obtains knowledge that may help her/him to apply for master programs.
The teachers of the course aim to organize visits to companies and scientific laboratories during the course. The teachers also aim to organize lectures by visiting scientists and people working in companies.
On completion of this course the student:
• is able to model various phenomena and factors affecting them
• has the big picture of the most common mathematical methods of modelling and simulation
• masters the software used in the course
• understands the basic phenomena of relativity
• understands the contents of related scientific and technical articles
Content
• General principles and methods of modeling and simulation
• Optimization methods
• Relativity
Evaluation scale
0-5
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The student:
• understands the basic phenomena of relativity and nanophysics
• is able to solve basic optimization problems
Assessment criteria, good (3)
In addition to satisfactory criteria, the student:
• understands the impact of relativity on natural sciences and information transfer and is able to analyze the relationships between the laws of relativity and the mathematical methods related to the applications
• is able to solve simple modelling problems
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
In addition to the good criteria, the student:
• has an excellent understanding of the studied physical phenomena and their applications
• masters excellently the mathematical methods of the course
• can apply his/her acquired knowledge and methods into various situations
• understands scientific and technological articles of the fields studied in the course
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
The student:
• understands the basic phenomena of relativity
• is able to solve basic optimization problems
Qualifications
A student who has passed the two previous courses or can show that (s)he masters the material studied during the previous courses is accepted to a student of this last course.
