Objective

On completion of the course, the student
• can responsibly develop innovative practical and concrete solutions, practices, products or services with multidisciplinary partners to meet the diverse future needs and current challenges in the metropolitan area
• is able to define the concept of innovation and take development methods into use
• is able to apply project and network-based work, creativity and competence in regional, national or international development work
• uses their personal skills and abilities to work in multidisciplinary collaboration and working environment
• creates a culture of cooperation and negotiation for successful teamwork
• uses their skills in problem solving, collaboration, technical and communication skills to support the collaborative development processes and joint decision making of the team.

Content

• The concept of innovation, development work management and building a development team
• Collaborative project and innovation work and assessment: brainstorming, future-oriented conceptualisation and design, customer and user understanding, contracts and copyrights, communicating, publishing, productisation, marketing and implementation planning
• Multidisciplinary teamwork, stakeholder activities and networking
• Innovation development tools and methods

The student confirms his / her place in the course implementation by being present in the course orientation. If a student is unable to participate in the orientation due to illness, he / she confirms his / her place on the course implementation by sending a confirmation message to teacher in charge.

Employer connections

Project challenges are work-life related.
Available projects will be published in OMA in May 2025 before the implementation begins.
Registration for project is done with an e-form. Failure to register for the project may prevent participation to the course.
Students will be informed of their placement in project groups before the first project meeting.

Content scheduling

Course begins with joint orientation on Monday 26.5.2025
The first project-specific meeting will be announced in a project challenge description.
Attendance during the first project week is mandatory.
After the first week, project coach arranges two coaching sessions per week in June. Outside the coaching sessions, project groups work independently on their projects.
In July, project groups work on their projects independently.
All assignments must be completed and submitted by 31.7.2024.
Project ends in August with final evaluation meeting with the project coach.

Please notice, that this is an interactive and intensive study course and active participation is required throughout the course. This course contains group work and independent studying according to the project plan conducted by the project group in the beginning of the course. In addition, there are weekly coaching sessions twice a week with project coach (in June).

INTENSIVE STUDY COURSE; Attendance is required throughout the course 26.5.2025-31.7.2025 + final evaluation in August.

Students will be informed of their placement in project groups before the first project meeting.
First project meeting: The exact place and time are indicated in the project challenge description document.

You must have at least 60 ECTS in order to participate on this course.

RPL: The application must be made and approved before registering for the course.

MATERIALS prepared by the teacher are works in accordance with the Copyright Act (404/61) for which the teacher has copyright. Assignments AND MATERIALS may not be used except in their own studies. Their public distribution is only allowed with the permission of the teacher.

AI (Artificial intelligence) can be used for brainstorming when planning written assignments, but it should not be used as a substitute for own thinking and writing. Correcting the language of a self-generated text is allowed, but writing entire texts using AI is not. If you use AI, its use must be described transparently. Failure to describe the use of AI will be considered as misconduct (cheating). The student

• is able to define and apply the concept of innovation, development and productisation processes and is able to facilitate the development work with versatile range of methods to accomplish an implementable outcome
• is able to develop successful project- and network-based teamwork and their own creativity and competence in project and network-based work in regional, national or international development work
• takes an active role and analytically assesses their competence and learning in multidisciplinary collaboration
• develops actively a culture of cooperation and negotiation and helps the team to succeed

Assessment is focused on the work carried out during the course, the gained competence and knowledge upon the completion of the course, the outcomes of the project and meeting the project goals and creating innovative concrete and implementable solutions.
