Objective

- The student knows how to plan cuts and embankments
- Manages the volume and weight coefficients of different soil structures
- Can measure a safe ground structure
- Can draw a surface leveling plan and understand the principles of drainage
- Can measure earth and pile foundations

Content

- Foundation: ground foundation, foundation on rock and piles
- Choice of pile type, pile load capacity, principles of operation of piles, piling work and related quality control
- Drying, frost protection, ground structures for house building, trenches and excavation, excavation and filling work, radon.
- Basics of quality control of foundation structures, tightness and load-bearing capacity
- Safety risks of trenching, trench support, earth pressure and water pressure stresses

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student understands the selection criteria of different foundation options and knows what is required of a safely implemented foundation construction site, finds the necessary quality control criteria from different sources.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student knows how to guide foundation construction planning and quality control, manages key calculations and can interpret plans and thus manage demanding foundation construction sites.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition to what is described above, the student is able to apply what she/he has learned independently and prepare challenging quality assurance plans for foundation works and work explanations.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student understands the selection criteria of different foundation options and knows what is required of a safely implemented foundation construction site, finds the necessary quality control criteria from different sources.
