Objective

The students are familiar with the basic concepts of dramaturgy and are able to recognize dramaturgical structures in texts and other materials, and in live performances. The students understand the scenography as a whole and recognize elements of set design, lighting, costume design, and sound design. They recognize the key concepts related to live performance aesthetics, like genre, visuality and rhythm, and understand the effects of space to a live performance. The students are familiar with key actors in the professional field in Finland and have an overview of the field as a whole. The students are able to acquire information realted to dramaturgy and live performance analysis.

Location and time

January-May 2025, all teaching sessions remotely in Zoom, performance reviews to be announced during the course

Instructions on the use of materials can be obtained from the Classroom workspace in the beginning of the course unit at the latest.

Exam schedules

No exam. Deadlines for returning assignments according to the timetable of the teaching sessions.

Partial grades are valid for one year from the start of the course. Similarly, the final date for the return of any separately agreed grid assignments is one year from the start of the course.

Further information

The course requires at least 80% attendance. The procedure for replacing the absence is agreed with the teacher in charge of the course unit. The schedule of the course can be found in Lukkari. Further information about the workshops in the course can be found in a separate document. All parts of the course must be completed successfully.

The contact teaching sessions of the implementation will be recorded in e.g. Microsoft Stream for use by the students via Moodle and Google Classroom platforms. The recordings will be kept for up to 2 years. If students do not wish to participate in the recordings, they should contact the teacher responsible for the course.

The students understand for the most part the key concepts of dramaturgy and scenography. They are familiar with aspects of the Finnish professional field as a whole.

The students understand well the key conepts of dramaturgy and scenography. They can recognize elements of scenographical design and know the key concepts related to live performance aesthetics. They are well familiar with the Finnish professional field as a whole.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The students understand well the key conepts of dramaturgy and scenography. They understand elements of scenographical design in a versatile way and know wll the key concepts related to live performance aesthetics. They have a wide understanding of the Finnish professional field as a whole. They are able to apply their knowledge of dramaturgy and scenography in their activities.

The students understand for the most part the key concepts of dramaturgy and scenography. They are familiar with aspects of the Finnish professional field as a whole.

Attendance and learning assignments 50%

Performance analysis assignments 30 %

By returning the online exam or online assignment, students confirm that their demonstration of competence is based on independent work and ethical behaviour. Failure to do so may result in suspension from the UAS for up to one year. Act on Universities of Applied Sciences 932/2014, Section 38. In order to ensure the independent demonstration of competence in online learning, the teacher may, at his/her discretion, require the demonstration of competence under supervised conditions or by means of an oral examination. The teacher will inform the student of the method of demonstrating competence at the latest at the beginning of the course.
