Learning outcomes
After completing the course, students will be able to communicate in familiar everyday and working situations and will have sufficient language skills to deal with a wide range of practical issues. They understand the main ideas of everyday texts and can also deduce details from the context. They can write short descriptions and messages and very simple job search texts. They have a command of basic everyday vocabulary, structures, some idiomatic expressions and the most common linking words and expressions. The student's language skills are at least at European Framework of Reference for Languages level A2.2 and possibly B1.1 in some areas.
Content
• Oral and written communication in everyday contexts: education and work, service situations, information about Finnish culture and society
• Grammatical structures, such as using the verb tenses, verb rections, plural forms, comparing adjectives and adverbs, present and past tense of the passive
• Key characteristics of formal and informal style
Prerequisites
Previous knowledge of Finnish on the A2.1-A2.2. level, e.g. the courses Finnish 1-3 or Suomen mestari 1-2 (chapters 1-5)

This Finnish as a second language course is open to all Metropolia degree students. If you have a similar course offered by your degree, the recommendation is to primarily take that course.
Good studying skills and a lot of independent work is required. Reserve time for homework and independent studying on your calendar at least 5 h/week.

The student has achieved the objectives of the course with excellent marks. The student
• is able to participate in ordinary service and professional situations with some support of the communication partner
• is able to understand many types of texts concerning the everyday life even though the topic is not related to their immediate surroundings
• is able to write understandable texts, messages, descriptions related to everyday life and a simple CV and job application.
• is able to apply their skills in situations in leisure time, studies and work.
