Objective
On completion of the course, the student will be able to participate in everyday life communication in familiar situations and their language proficiency will be sufficient to take care of simple practical things. The student is able to understand the main points in short, ordinary texts and also conclude details from the context. The student is able to write short messages and describe their personal history and leisure time in a simple manner. The student’s communication skills will correspond to the skills level A2.1-A2.2 as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Content
• Oral and written communication in everyday contexts: leisure time, hobbies, nature, service situations, simple news, basic information about Finnish culture and society
• Grammatical structures, for example verb tenses, verb rections, connecting sentences, object and plural partitive
• The most important features of spoken Finnish

Teaching methods
Face-to-face-teaching in Myllypuro campus and independent studying in Moodle and with the tasks in the book.
Employer connections
This Finnish as a second language course is open to all Metropolia degree students. If you have a similar course offered by your degree, the recommendation is to primarily take that course.
Good studying skills and a lot of independent work is required. Book time for homework and independent studying on your calendar at least 5 h/week.

oral exam 19.5.
retakes 27th of May at 13:00 and 4th of June at 12:00.

The student has achieved the course objectives well, even though the knowledge and skills need improvement in some areas. The student
• is able to apply simple and familiar structures and vocabulary in leisure time and study related situations
• communicates understandably in a simple conversation
• can further the conversation by asking questions and commenting
• understands everyday life texts and is able to draft understandable texts (messages and descriptions) about familiar topics
• understands basic features of spoken language.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student has achieved the objectives of the course with excellent marks. The student
• is able to participate both as a listener and as a speaker in simple conversations when the topics concern familiar everyday situations
• is able to further the conversation to a certain extent and understand some spoken language
• is able to understand short texts concerning everyday life even though the topic is not related to their immediate surroundings
• has good capabilities to apply their skills in situations in leisure time, studies and work.
