Objective

The student can describe the factors affecting the client’s respiratory and cardiovascular health and knows how to promote respiratory and cardiovascular health. The student knows how to assess the function of the client’s respiratory and cardiovascular system and can implement physiotherapy that promotes functional ability. Students are able to interpret examination results related to cardiac patient’s physical performance and assess this performance. They know how to plan and implement the rehabilitation of patients representing varying risk levels in various phases of the rehabilitation.

Promotion of Respiratory Functions in Physiotherapy 3 credits
Promotion of Cardiovascular Functions in Physiotherapy 2 credits

1 credit = 27 hours. The total amount of credits includes face-to-face teaching, guidance, group work, seminars, independent studying, exams and written assignments.

Further information

Attendance compulsory 80%. Absences will be compensated as determined by the teacher. Instructions will be discussed at the first meeting. The student confirms their place in the course by attending the first class or, if the student is unable to attend the start of the course due to illness, they can confirm their place by informing the teacher responsible for the course in advance by e-mail.

If the student has individualized educational support / study arrangements, shall this student contact the teacher of the course immediately after the end of the registration period (or latest before the start of the course.)

It is not allowed to use or distribute any tasks, assignments or MATERIALS in any other way than in the student's own studies. Distributing ONLY with the teacher's personal permission.

In accordance with the Degree Regulations of Metropolia, fraudulent conduct in all matters related to studies, examinations and learning tasks is prohibited. Students are expected to follow the guidelines of The Finnish National Board on Research Integrity (TENK), appointed by the Ministry of Education and Culture, on good scientific practice and how to deal with violations thereof, including appropriate citation of sources.

The use of artificial intelligence in exams is not allowed. AI may be used in the creation of the promotion of respiratory health task, but the student must clearly explain its use. Failure to disclose the use of AI will be interpreted as cheating.

Students’ actions follow the rules and instructions given, and they use working methods appropriately and safely. Students work according to the professional ethics of their own field, and they act responsibly as group members.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Students analyse the relationships between appropriate core concepts as well as justify their choices using the knowledge base of their own professional field. They analyse the prerequisites and consequences of their own actions. Students act according to the rules and instructions given in their operating environment, and they use working methods appropriately and safely. Students work according to the professional ethics of their own field, and they act flexibly as group members.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Students analyse and assess the relationships between appropriate core concepts as well as make choices using the knowledge base of their own professional field. They assess the prerequisites and consequences of their own actions. Students act initiatively and goal-orientedly in diverse operating environments, and they apply working methods appropriately and safely. Students work according to professional ethics in varied situations, and their functioning enhances group activities.

Assessment methods and criteria

Exams and assigned learning tasks are graded on a scale of 0-5. Some learning tasks will be marked pass/fail.
The grade for the course will be the average of the grades for the promotion of respiratory and cardiovascular functions sections. The number grade for the Promotion of Respiratory Functions in Physiotherapy section will be 20% for the examination and 80% for the learning task. The numerical mark for the Promotion of Cardiovascular Functions in Physiotherapy section is 100% of the weight of the examination.

Qualifications

Student knows the basics of assessment and promotion of functioning in physiotherapy. Student knows the basics of body functions and structures.
