Objective
The student is familiar with the health care and social services system as well as the responsibilities of various actors in it and understands the mission and activities of the wellbeing services counties.
The student knows how to comply with the key legislation and ethical principles governing health care and social services.
The student knows the basics of structured recording of information and the key legislation governing it, and understands the importance of recording information as part of high-quality and safe treatment of clients and patients.
The student has a command of the key practices related to the prevention of infections and to aseptic techniques, and promotes safety in their work environment through their own actions. The student possesses the basic skills in first aid and knows how to act if someone suffers a sudden attack of a common illness or an accident. The student understands the importance of promoting wellbeing and health in order to close the health gap, and identifies various ways to support the individual wellbeing of people and to maintain their functional and work capacity.

Location and time
Teaching is carried out as distance and local teaching.
The first aid exercises are carried out in small groups (groups of max. 12 students) as close study on the Myllypuro campus. Attendance is mandatory for the training classes.
Asepsis laboratories are carried out in small groups as face-to-face teaching at the Myllypuro campus. Participation in laboratories is mandatory.

The total load of the course is 135 hours, which is divided into five parts.
The health care and social services system, the key legislation and ethical principles 1.0 credits (27 hours of student work): lectures 6 hours, individual assignments 8 hours, independent study 12h and exam 1h.
First Aid 1.0 credits (27 hours of student work): individual assignments 8 hours, CPR online course 1 hour, first aid exercises 4 hours and small group assignments 14 hours.
Infection control and asepsis 1.0 credits (27 hours of student work): lectures 4h, individual assignment 7h, online courses 2h, independent study 10h, aseptic exercises 4h

The assignments and MATERIALS prepared by the teacher are works according to the Copyright Act (404/61), to which the teacher has the copyright. You may not use assignments AND MATERIALS other than in your own studies. Their public distribution is only allowed with the permission of the teacher.
Studying first aid includes individual and small group assignments. Part of the tasks will be taken to the first aid training classes. Casual clothes and indoor shoes are worn for first aid training classes. There is an obligation to attend practice classes.
If the student has previous knowledge of first aid, the student can apply for credit either in whole or in part for 1.0 ECTS credit (=27 hours of student work) in first aid as part of the "Professional in social and health care" course.
The student must submit an ahot application as soon as the course supervisor has approved him for implementation. The application is addressed to the first aid teacher. Before submitting the application, the student must assess his competence in relation to the first aid competence goals. The application must be accompanied by a certificate / document from previous first aid studies.
Regarding asepsis or health care and social services system, key legislation and ethical principles, you can apply for a credit card based on your previous degree and work experience. For example, dental nurse degree and work experience. The application is addressed to the individual tutor and the decision is sent to the responsible teacher.

The health care and social services system, key legislation and ethical principles has been approved when the student has completed all tasks and has successfully completed the exam.
First aid 1 ECTS approved:
The individual assignments must be completed before the training sessions and the small group assignment must be returned by the deadline indicated in Moodle. Obligation to participate in first aid exercises according to the schedule. Forced absences are agreed upon separately with the teacher.
Infection control and asepsis have been successfully completed when the student has completed all tasks and participated in aseptic exercises.
