Objective

Students deepen their understanding about the central anatomical structures essential to clinical work of an osteopathic using knowledge obtained by different methods. Students develop their information retrieval skills and write out professional text that require synthesis of clinical approach and knowledge of anatomy.

Content

Examination of the size, shape and location of body structures as well as careful examination of clinically significant regions
Tissue microscopy (histology)
Advanced anatomy of the skull
Anatomy of the circulatory system of the central nervous system
Anatomical autopsy (dissection)
Sonopalpation
Principles of imaging diagnostics (radiology)
Advanced anatomy relevant to the clinical work of the osteopath
Information retrieval and writing an analytical text about the main structures of anatomy from a professional point of view.

Materials

Anatomy:

Completion alternatives

If the student has individualized educational support or study arrangements, the student must contact the teacher of the course, or course segment, immediately after the end of the registration period or latest before the start of the course.

Anatomy exams will not be split any further.

Student workload

5 sc
1 sc = 27 hours of student’s work = 10 hours of contact teaching, 17 hours of independent work.

Content scheduling

Advanced anatomy of the skull, circulation of the central nervous system and topography of the neck 0,75 sc.
Histology and microspoping 1 sc.
Radiology 0,75 sc.
Sonopalpation 0,75 sc.

Further information

The MATERIALS and assignments designed by the teacher are protected by the Finnish Copyright Law (404/61). It is not allowed to use or distribute any assignments or MATERIALS in any other way than in the student's OWN personal studies. Distributing can be done ONLY with the teacher's personal permission.

In the written assignment the use of AI is permitted for outlining the subject, clarification of related terminology and reflection of the subject in the backround. The written text itself is not to be produced by AI. The use of AI must be reported clearly, so that its use, the prompts applied and the yielded answer can be seen in the text. The student must also assess the quality of the answer given by the AI with appropriate citations of the source material.

Evaluation scale

0-5

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Management of the foreign terminology is at least 50 % of what is demanded.
Students use foreign professional concepts systematically.
Students identify anatomical structures and repeat their meaning.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Management of the foreign terminology is at least 70 % of what is demanded.
Students use foreign professional concepts expertly.
Students identify and describe anatomical structures and discover connections between structure and function.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Management of the foreign terminology is at least 90 % of what is demanded.
Students use foreign professional concepts widely and expertly for example when answering essay questions.
Students identify anatomical structures and explain their function by analysing connections between structure and function.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Management of the foreign terminology is at least 50% of what is demanded.
Students use foreign professional concepts systematically.
Students identify anatomical structures and repeat their meaning.

Assessment methods and criteria

Advanced anatomy of the skull exam.
Histology assignments.
Participation in histology microscoping.

Advanced clinical anatomy assignement.
Participation in both days of dissection and reflection assignment.

Advanced clinical anatomy group assignment will be evaluated on a scale from 0 to 5, so it will determine the overall grade. Other areas will be evaluated as Pass / Fail.
