Objective

Operating and cost environment
- Students are familiar with the different ways of organising and providing social and health services and the guiding legislation.
- Students understand the importance of productivity and profitability of organisations and companies’ operations and are able to assess the costs and productivity of operations.

Work community development
- Students understand and know the importance of development and quality in the production of a service.
- Students are able to create new work practices and business ideas.

Entrepreneurship and business organisation
- Students have the basic skills to start a business and also know how to use public advisory services to start a business.
- Students know the social significance of entrepreneurship and the relationship between the economy and business.

Supervisory work and management
- Students understand the importance of management and human resources for the success of the organisation and the company.
- Students identify general work skills, responsibilities and ways of organising work and adopt an entrepreneurial approach to work.

Teaching methods

Guided online study. The course includes independent multiple-choice tasks as well as individual written assignments focused on learning tasks in management and entrepreneurship.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Students master professional concepts, and they justify their choices using the comprehensive knowledge base, based on the client’s needs. Students assess systematically the prerequisites and consequences of their own actions.

Students act independently and professionally aiming at goals set to them in their operating environment as well as apply working methods appropriately and safely.

Students work according to professional ethics as well as commit themselves to the group, enhancing its functioning.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Students use professional terminology in a controlled way and justify their choices based on the needs of the client using a broad knowledge base. Students systematically evaluate the conditions and consequences of their own actions.

Students act independently and professionally in a variety of contexts in accordance with objectives and apply working methods appropriately and safely.

Students work in a variety of situations in accordance with professional ethics and are committed to contributing to teamwork.

Written Learning Assignment in Management: Grade 0–5, 50% of the total course grade

Written Learning Assignment in Entrepreneurship: Grade 0–5, 50% of the total course grade

Detailed Numeric Evaluation Criteria for Written Learning Assignments

- Excellent (5): The student demonstrates a broad and in-depth understanding of the course content in the areas of assessment. They possess excellent, relevant expertise in social and health care management and entrepreneurship. Their ability to apply learned concepts creatively and comprehensively in the professional context is evident.

- Good (3–4): The student demonstrates a solid understanding of the course content in the areas of assessment. They actively seek information and interpret its key connections to the professional context. They show an ability to analyze and apply learned concepts in the workplace setting.

- Satisfactory (1–2): The student shows basic competence in the course content as per the learning objectives. However, there are gaps in acquiring, interpreting, and applying knowledge in the workplace context.

- Fail (0): The student has not achieved the course learning objectives. They have not completed the required tasks satisfactorily according to instructions.

By submitting online exams or assignments, the student confirms that their demonstration of competence is based on independent work and ethical conduct. Any form of academic misconduct may result in suspension from the university for up to one year, as per the University of Applied Sciences Act 932/2014, Section 38. To ensure independent learning in the online course, the instructor may, at their discretion, require a demonstration of competence under supervised conditions or in an oral exam. The instructor will communicate the method of competence assessment no later than the start of the course.
