Objective
The student learns basic skills and understanding of mathematics that are needed to understand phenomena of physics and chemistry and technical applications.
Content
1. Understanding of equations and functions is deepened and utilized in various applications
2. Concept of derivative is introduced and used in engineering applications
3. Basic ideas of analytic geometry
Materials
The learning material can be found on Moodle.
Teaching methods
The course is implemented using the individual learning method and the Flipped Classroom. In the online classes, teaching sessions are held on the course topics. Theory material is also available in educational videos, moodle pages and in the textbook. The student is also expected to delve deeper into the materials independently. The main focus of the course is on doing exercises. Exercises are done both independently and in guided calculation workshops held on campus.
Student workload
A good completion of the course is estimated to take about 135 hours (5 credits = 135 hours of student work). Theory and calculation workshops total 64 h. Independent work 71 h.
Content scheduling
Online lessons on Mondays 2 hours/week, calculation workshops Wed or Thu 2 hours/week, see timetable. A more detailed breakdown of the content can be found in Moodle.
Evaluation scale
0-5
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The student identifies the basic concepts of the course and is able to solve simple problems related to them.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The student is able to utilize the topics of the course in simple problems of science and technology.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student is able to utilize the topics of the course in more advanced problems of science and technology.
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
The student recognizes the basic concepts and methods of the course and is able to solve simple tasks related to them.
Assessment methods and criteria
Continuous assessment. The evaluation is based on the points obtained from the digital Moodle practice tasks. The student must also return the notes from the intermediate stages of the solutions with approval.
By returning the tasks of the online implementation, the student assures that his demonstration of competence is based on independent doing and ethical action. Violation can lead to a temporary dismissal from the university of applied sciences for up to one year. University of Applied Sciences Act 932/2014, § 38. To ensure independent competence in the online implementation, the teacher may, at his discretion, require the competence to be demonstrated under controlled conditions or with an oral exam. The teacher informs about the method of demonstrating competence at the latest at the beginning of the Study.
Qualifications
Mathematics 1 or equivalent knowledge.
