Objective

To understand the nature and importance of innovations in the development of society, industries and companies, to analyze the role of innovation in different stages of the product life cycle, to understand the process of diffusion of innovation.
To distinguish types of innovations, to explain common and different features of innovation types.
To be familiar with the methods of commercialization of innovations, to be able to choose and practically apply the most appropriate methods.
To be familiar with the types and protection methods of intellectual property rights to be able to use patent search databases.
To be able to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of innovation support systems in EU countries.

Content

The concept and definition of innovation. The need for innovation, 7 sources of innovative opportunity. Examples of innovative activities. Innovation in the product life cycle, diffusion of innovations.
Innovation classification systems: the concept of open innovation; radical and insremental innovations.
Methods of commercialization of innovations. Technology transfer.
Protection of intellectual property rights: types of intellectual property rights; protection methods.
European Innovation Sscoreboard, four innovation performance groups EU countries fall into. Innovation support systems in EU countries. The most innovative countries in the world.
