Objective
After completing the course, the students can participate in simple discussions regarding familiar topics. They understand the main ideas of a simple text and can draw conclusions regarding details based on the context. The students can write short messages related to the following topics: repetitive work routines in their own field; familiar themes; studies in their own field; and topics regarding the work day or leisure time. The students’ language skills will correspond to the skill level B1.2-B2.1 as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Content
Oral and written communication in everyday situations at work and in leisure time (important and repeated phrases), spending time with friends, key vocabulary in the professional field, vocabulary related to work and profession. Grammar structures, for example locative cases, the most common types of words, using the objective case, identifying the past tense, voicing an opinion. Basic information regarding the spoken language and the Finnish work life.

Spring 2025, 3rd and 4th period. Please see the timetable, both time and place of the classes may vary (usually on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons)

On completion of the course, the student will be able to participate in simple conversations on familiar topics. He/she will be able to understand the main points and also conclude some details from the context. He/she will also be able to write short texts about familiar topics, such as his/her background, life, home and leisure time. The student’s communication skills will correspond to the skill level A1.3 as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

- understand basic features of colloquial Finnish and of the Finnish way of life.

- participate both as a listener and as a speaker in simple conversations when the topics concern familiar everyday situations
