Study Guide

Objective

The student knows how to function as a member of an ensemble. The student knows various styles of popular music and can delineate their role in an ensemble both as soloist and accompanist. The student plays or sings repertoire of different eras of popular music from memory, and is capable of taking on responsibilities related to working in an ensemble. The student develops interaction skills and can reflect on their own work and that of others, as well as express themselves both orally and in writing. The student is able to write and read musical notation.

WORKSHOP: 3 op.

Kontaktiopetusta 13 x 90min. Kontaktiopetuksen lisäksi yhtyeet työskentelevät itseohjautuvasti.

Tunnit pidetään keskiviikkoisin klo 10:45-12:15

Jokainen neljästä workshop-kokoonpanosta valmistelee arvioitavaan esitykseen:

Suspicious Mind (Elvis), Crosstown Traffic (Hendrix), Lucille (Richard), What’s Love Got to Do With It (Turner), Peace of My Heart (Joplin) / edelliselle valinnaisena You´re The One That I Want (Grease)
kaksi sävellystä 1950-, 1960-, 1970-, sekä 1980-luvulta
edellä mainittujen lisäksi kaksi vapaavalintaista sävellystä populaarimusiikin genrestä
ohjelmisto esitetään ilman nuotteja


Lukukauden aikana jokainen opiskelija kirjoittaa nuotit 1-2 biisiin ja harjoituttaa kappaleen yhtyellään. Jokainen opiskelija varautuu kertomaan lyhyesti valitsemansa biisin taustasta ja kappaleen merkityksestä. Syyskauden aikana pyritään järjestämään opettajakiertoa.

tämän jälkeen keskiviikkoisin klo 10:45-12:15 (4.9.-27.11, mahdollinen syysvapaa 14.10.)



ENSEMBLE: 2 op. (aloitus marraskuun aikana)

opettaja valitsee taiteellisen kokonaisuuden
lyhytperiodityöskentelyä noin 20 tuntia
2-5 pitkää harjoituskertaa ja palautetunti studiosession jälkeen
ensemble tekee 2-3 biisin äänityssession koulun studiossa
äänityksen koordinoi Julius Mauranen yhtyettä ohjaavan opettajan kanssa
miksattu äänitys jaetaan opiskelijoille kuunteluun

Studioajat ilmoitetaan mahdollisimman pian.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student:
- is able to work independently and under supervision in the rehearsal of the repertoire
- has learned the course repertoire to a satisfactory level (for example, is able to perform from memory if needed)
- is able to play their instrument and perform the repertoire idiomatically
- is able to communicate with both the ensemble and the audience
- understands their role in an ensemble and can communicate their own musical ideas.

Prerequisites

Completion of basic education in music or equivalent skills and knowledge.
