Objective

The students are familiar with volunteer and civic activities in a versatile way. They plan and complete an internship according to their own professional interests strengthening their professional competencies. With their activities, the students promote inclusion, agency, human rights, equality, and sustainable development.

Content

Importance, principles, and practices of volunteer and civic activities. The internship will be completed during the studies according to the plan presented by the students. The internship can be linked to e.g., civic activities, volunteering as an internship mentor for non-native Finnish speaking students and other support person activities.

Location and time

Orientation 26.9. klo 9.00-11.30 (MPA4018). The invitation to the orientation will be sent to the students through e-mail after the acceptance to the course. The orientation is held in english and finnish.

Spesified material in the Moodle -workspace.

Teaching methods

The course consists of the following:

- Orientation to the study
- Written assignment
- Searching for the internship organisation + carrying out the intership
- Self assessment

Employer connections

Study unit is implemented in collaboration with volunteer work organizations and other working life partners.
The course cannot be completed to support an individual without the guidance of an organization or in a family or relative relationship.

Opprtunity to complete the course abroad. Mind the instructions (Metropolia and general).

Completion alternatives

The internship is compulsory for students to social services and open as an elective study for every degree program student in Metropolia.
Internship can be completed abroad.

Orientation, independent written assignment, searching for the placements, self assesment etc. (35 hours)
Voluntary work (100 hours)

Orientation to the study course is on 26.9. klo 9.00-11.30 (MPA4018). The invitation to the orientation will be sent to the students through e-mail after the acceptance to the course. Orientation is in english.

The course is compulsory to social service students and open as an elective study for every degree program student in Metropolia. Participation is possible in English.

The instructions and assignments are in Moodle. You can sign in there after you have been accepted in the course. The key to Moodle will be send by e-mail. The Moodle tasks will be updated and published for the orientation.
