Objective

This course is designed for network and security administrators and those with similar job functions which have two years of experience with general networking and basic security knowledge. After the course, the student has basic knowledge of information security and what is the meaning of information security for the companies. He or she knows the basic concepts and how basic security mechanisms work. He or she knows different cryptographic methods from the past to now.

Content

The course consists of three topics: information security, cryptology and applications security. The course gives assurance that you can handle setting up secure environments and handle the challenging situations surrounding security breaches, including the following skills:

Security fundamentals
Basic risk identification and analysis
Threat identification and assessment
How to secure IT infrastructure security
Cryptography
Operational security and general security processes
Incident response and business continuity

Course is delivered in Metropolia's Moodle environment and you can do this course in your own pace.

Materials

The course lessons are based on Metropolia lecture handouts, CEH9, Cisco Learning, Microsoft Learning, and other Internet documents.

Teaching methods

Course is 100% online (Self-Study) course. The theory is studied by own pace using course Moodle lessons and course literature.

At the end of the course final tests are taken (on-line Moodle tests).

The theory is studied by own pace using course Moodle lessons and course literature.

At the end of the course final tests are taken (on-line Moodle tests).

Assessment methods and criteria

The minimum passing score for the Final test is 700/1000. If not achieved, the student needs to retake the test.

Final test will be taken remotely and the course is graded Pass/Fail.
