Objective

The student meets the customer in a human-oriented palpation situation. The student defines palpation as part of diagnostics. The student strengthens own confidence in knowledge of anatomy and palpation skills by using ultrasound imaging. The student applies own professional knowledge in multidisciplinary teamwork. The student deepens palpation skills and integrates knowledge into the future profession through self-reflection. The student palpates general bony landmarks and soft tissue structures throughout the body and finds structures in the ultrasound image. The student recognizes the importance of a work sample that utilizes touch in a customer situation. The student recalls the different tissue types of the body.

Content

Palpation as part of diagnostics. Reviewing anatomy. Palpation exercises from different areas of the body: skull, upper limbs, back, front body, pelvis and lower limbs. Sonopalpation. Multidisciplinary teamwork. Self-reflection.

Teaching methods

• advance tasks
• guided practical palpation and sonopalpation exercises
• Learning tasks to be completed independently in the Moodle workspace
• a group task in a small group and its presentation

In case the student has received a decision for individual support, which can affect the completion of the study unit, the student should be in touch with the responsible teacher of the study unit directly after the ending of the enrolment period.

Exam schedules

The students of the previous implementation report:

"A course where you repeat old things and learn new ones. A relaxed and multidisciplinary atmosphere. It's worth it!"

"Practical and instructive."

"Inspiring! Strengthens palpation skills and confidence!

Student workload

5 ects x 27h= 135h students work

The studies have a lot of contact teaching and also independent study & practice, i.e. the student reads anatomy according to his needs, does learning tasks that can be completed independently in the Moodle workspace, practices the palpation exercises performed in class independently and does a learning task in a small group.

Content scheduling

during 1-2 perioid

Further information

The course is suitable for everyone who is interested in developing their own palpation skills and getting to know how to use an ultrasound device to verify palpation.

It is good for the student to be prepared for palpation and sonopalpation work in pairs, in which case, depending on the area, you will be wearing your underwear, and a towel will be used to cover the body.
