Objective

After completing this course, students are able to write their final project report. They are familiar with the guidelines related to the final project. The student is familiar with methods and principles of research relevant to their professional field. They know the intellectual and ethical requirements of composing a final project report. They can identify development needs in their own field, outline a research topic and choose an appropriate research method to address the research question. They can find source material and review it critically. They know the principles of expository, research and industry-specific writing. Students are able to argue and reflect on relevant points and justify their choices.
The student is able to communicate as an expert in various research and development positions and environments, and retrieve and evaluate information critically and use it in a target-oriented way. The students can use their language and communication skills to continuously develop their thinking and expertise. Students can argue, reflect and rationalize their choices.

- Guidelines for the final project report.
- Mastering, outlining and structuring research information.
- Research methods related to the professional field.
- Outlining of a research topic and research question.
- Use of source material.
- Research ethics.
- Principles of research based writing.
- Fundamentals of scientific writing
- Ethical and critical use of sources, and proper referencing
- Communication in projects and in research and development assignments

Location and time

Autumn 2024, Tuition is organized in Zoom and partly at Arabia campus.

Schedule is presented in the first session.

Further information

The course requires at least 80% attendance. The procedure for replacing the absence is agreed with the teacher in charge of the course unit. The schedule of the course can be found in Lukkari.

Lectures and Zoom-sessions will be recorded for the participants. The recordings will be distributed for example by Microsoft Stream and Google Classroom. The recordings will be available for 2 years. If a student will not want to participate recordings, student should discuss with lecturer.

They are able to find relevant source material from professional sources in a versatile way, and assess the reliability and usability of the information in their studies and in their work. Students can work in a constructive way in communication situations related to expert work, and research and development work.

Students can identify development needs in their own field, outline a research topic and choose an appropriate research method to address the research question. They can argue their choices and outline their subject in a concise and clear way. They are able to produce relevant information related to the professional field. They can find relevant source material from professional sources in a versatile way, and critically assess the reliability and usability of the information in their studies and in their work. Students can work in in communication situations related to expert work, and research and development work as members or leaders of a team.They show willingness to develop their skills in interaction and communications related to their expertise.
