Conservation of Media Art I (5 cr)

Objective

The student understands the characteristics of media art as well as its technology and device-dependent implementation. The student is familiar with equipment and systems related to the presentation of video and media productions. The student knows the basics of electrical engineering and understands the basic electrical quantities and their dependencies. The student understands the connections, calculations and measurements related to basic quantities. The student is able to document works of media art and his/her own work.

The student recognizes the differences between video formats, understands their compatibility and the importance of versioning. The student knows the history of audiovisual equipment and knows equipment used in the implementation of media art. The student knows the equipment of performance sound systems, their properties, possibilities of use, operating principles and the special requirements of the systems. The student is able to read documents and manuals related to systems.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student participates in a multi-professional media art project. The student needs a lot of guidance to work productively. The student is able to acquire information, but is not able to evaluate the quality and suitability of information for the needs of the project. The student's teamwork goes well. The student is able to produce project documents and reports concerning his/her own work.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student is able to deepen his/her skills in documentation and conservation of works of media art. The student is able to work productively in a multidisciplinary team and participate in the production, presentation and installation of a work of media art and document it. The student is able to acquire information and evaluate the quality and suitability of information for the implementation, presentation and conservation of a work of media art and for long-term preservation. The student develops his/her skills by working on a multidisciplinary project related to media art. The student is able to document both the work of art, its production and preservation and his/her own work.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student is able to deepen his/her skills in documentation and conservation of works of media art. The student is able to work productively and with active attitude in a multi-professional team. The student participates in the production, presentation and installation of a work of media art and is able to document the whole process. The student is able to acquire information and evaluate it and apply it to the issues of implementation, presentation and conservation of a work of media art and long-term preservation. The student has a broad understanding of the implementation, presentation and conservation of a work of media art and understands the challenges of long-term preservation. The student documents the work of art, its production and preservation and his/her own activity in a versatile and comprehensive manner.
