Objective
IoT Devices and Wireless Communications course covers the basics of designing an internet connected device. The course covers the basics of selecting micro-controllers and sensors for use in a smart device. Common standard wired communication protocols used to interface sensors and other devices in the system (such as I2C, USB, UART etc.) are studied. In addition, common wireless protocols used for Personal Area Networks (PANs) (Zigbee, thread, Bluetooth...) and Low Power Wide Area Networks (LoRa WAN, 6LoWPAN) are studied in detail. The knowledge acquired from the lectures and course material is applied into designing students' own IoT device. Students will be expected to demonstrate their designs in the form of group presentations and a final report.
Content
• Wired communication protocols (I2C, USB, UART)
• Wireless communication protocols (Zigbee, thread, Bluetooth)
• Wide area network protocols (LoRa, 6LoWPAN)
Evaluation scale
0-5
