Objective

The student knows the theoretical bases of social pedagogy, different trends and recognizes the goals of social pedagogy work.

Content

In this course, you`ll learn how social pedagogy can relate to the everyday life of individuals and communities. You will get to know the bases and goals of social pedagogy work, the development of social pedagogy in different social models and in present-day Finland.

Assignments are to be returned in written form to Moodle work space by the end of the course, 8.12.2023

Materials

Elina Nivala & Sanna Ryynänen 2019: Sosiaalipedagogiikka Kohti inhimillisempää yhteiskuntaa. Also available as an e-book and from several audiobook applications. As study material where applicable.
Other material is distributed in the beginning the study period in Moodle.

Teaching methods

In this course, you'll learn how social pedagogy can relate to the everyday life of individuals and communities. You will get to know the bases and goals of social pedagogy work, the development of social pedagogy in different social models and in present-day Finland.

The student participates in online lectures. The student familiarizes themselves with two articles shared in Moodle and completes the related learning tasks.
The student gets to know operating environments that utilize the social pedagogic approach through blog posts and websites chosen by the teacher. Based on the articles, the student participates in an online discussion with other students taking the course.

Some of the assignments are completed using Moodle tools, the written assignment related to the articles is returned as a pdf. file to Moodle by 8 December 2023.

The student knows the general and special tasks of social pedagogy and understands their social significance in people's everyday lives and environments.
The student uses the given material, participates in all sections of the assignments and returns the assignments according to the schedule.
