Renovation Site Work Planning (5 cr)

Objective

On completion of the course the student can
- manage a renovation project following the principles of project management
- plan the schedule, tasks and work arrangements
- act according to the risk management plan related to the project
- list methods, machinery and work arrangements related to different repair works
- plan on-site arrangements and logistics
- take care of customer communications and informing residents
- select suitable methods of weather protection and dust control at the renovation site
- implement a moisture management on site.
- explain safety risks of repair works as well as methods to improve occupational safety
- name renovation methods for facades, roof and foundation structures
- name repair methods for bath rooms and plumbing

Materials

The learning materials, including lecture handouts, will be published in Oma after the lectures. The lecture handouts are part of the exam content. Additionally, the exam content includes the textbooks and other materials specified separately in Oma

Teaching methods

The first lecture will be on August 26, 2024. In the first lecture, essential aspects related to the course requirements will be discussed. The lectures will be conducted in person, but a Zoom link (https://metropolia.zoom.us/j/2340620028) is also available for remote participation. The course includes mandatory assignments and an exam. The course platform used will be Metropolia's Oma workspace.

Exam schedules

The exam will be held on November 25, 2024, from 9 AM to 12 PM. The first retake will be two weeks later on December 9, 2024, from 9 AM to 12 PM. The second retake will be held in January, with the exact time to be announced later.

- list strengthening methods of load-bearing reinforced concrete structures
- prepare a repair construction work plan for a small repair building work

- analyze special features based on the demand and scope of the repair construction work

- prepare a task plan for the repair construction work for a wider repair work
- take into account occupational safety and environmental safety of repair construction work in a demanding repair work
- implement moisture management at the construction site and choose suitable protection methods

Assessment methods and criteria

Exam. The mandatory assignments will be graded as pass/fail. To complete the course, you must successfully pass all assignments, pass the exam, and actively participate in the lectures.
