Objective

The student understands the principles of category management and can apply supplier relationship management strategy to suitable procurement categories.
The student is able to
• apply the central theories, models and tools for developing the procurement function.
• create a risk map and gap-analysis and find development topics in procurement.
• create effective risk management strategies for procurement.
• evaluate possibilities for early supplier involvement (ESI) in new product development and understands the importance of stakeholder management in ESI.

This last session is a joint hybrid event with the Public Procurement MBAa Finnish degree program), alumni and staff .
This event is a procurement-related seminar in English and a networking event to which also alumni are invited.
Hopefully as many as possible is able to join the event f2f on campus.

Teaching methods

Online lectures and workshops via Zoom including visiting guest lectures
Seminar
Individual work based on online learning material and individual and group assignments via Moodle learning platform.

Link to Zoom and Moodle pages will be sent via email to the students few weeks before the implementation starts.

The main content is: Category management, Supplier relationship management, Risk management and Early supplier involvement in new product development

The main objectives of the course are:
• The student understands the principles of category management.
• The student can apply supplier relationship management strategy to suitable procurement categories.
• The student is able to apply the central theories, tools and models for developing the procurement function.
• The student is able to create a risk map and gap-analysis and find development topics in procurement.
• The student is able to create effective risk management strategies for procurement.
• The student is able to evaluate possibilities for early supplier involvement (ESI) in new product development and understands the importance of stakeholder management in ESI.

Further information

Prerequisites of the participation:
This course is for Master level studies and part of the Procurement Master's program. Therefore you should have completed bachelor level studies already and having some prior knowledge of procurement is recommended.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Sufficient performance: has completed basic requirements to pass the course and has made an attempt to apply and articulate concepts and information both verbally and in writing but has not made enough effort overall. The student has demonstrated little effort, interest and motivation for individual or team activities / assignments and the output is rather weak.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good overall performance: can apply and articulate concepts and information well both verbally and in writing, certain areas of individual or team output require further attention; shows appropriate level of interest and motivation in individual and team activities. Good presentation delivery and analysis.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent performance in all elements of the course: shows interest and motivation in individual and team activities and assignments, fully applies and clearly articulates concepts and information both verbally and in writing. The student is able to support his/her argument with references to the recommended reading and lecture content. Excellent presentation delivery and analysis.

Prerequisites

- An appropriate Bachelor's Degree
- Additionally, if you are interested in attending the Procurement courses: an appropriate Bachelor's Degree, as well as basic studies and / or work experience in the field of procurement, is required
