Objective

Construction site technology

The student understands the role of building services contracting in the construction process. He / she knows the principles of contract pricing and bidding. The student is able to draw up the most important HVAC quotation calculations, contracts and documents. The student knows the tasks, rights and responsibilities of supervisors. He / she is familiar with the proceedings at site meetings and be able to act in them. He / she is able to draw up detailed schedules for the basic construction site, coordinating the stages with other projects. They are able to evaluate the impact of schedule changes on the site economy. The student recognizes the threats to workplace and construction site safety and knows how to influence them.

Acquisitions

The student understands the importance of acquisitions to the financial outcome of contracting. The student knows the steps of the acquisition process and is able to prepare the documents. Student is able to evaluate the impact of acquisitions and scheduling changes on the construction site. The student will be familiar with the computer-based EDI tools. The student understands the significance of construction site logistics.

Building services contracts

The student knows the labour market organisations and wage systems in the field. He/she understands collective agreements in the field of building services engineering from the most important aspects. He / she is able to apply the general conditions .for building contracts on a general level. The student is familiar with consultant agreements and subcontractor agreements. Student will be familiar with the main principles of the Labour Protection and Insurance Act. The student understands how the Labour Safety and Health Act affects the work site.

Operating processes 

The student understands the operating processes of a company and is able to take a stand on the development of operational processes. Students will be able to pay attention to their time use and prioritize work tasks. He/she is able to improve the use of time in his/her duties. The students are able to act as a responsible foreman for water and sewage systems and air conditioning systems installations of demanding buildings after obtaining sufficient work experience. The student is able to use information models for contracting.

Task and Quality Planning

The student knows the process of task and quality planning and the elements that influence the plans. The student will learn to draw up task design and to use it when supervising the work, preparing purchases or preparing subcontracts. The student is able to draw up the outlines of quality design for building services acting as a tool for work site supervision.

Further information

The recognition of prior learning (AHOT) application must be submitted separately to the decision-maker responsible for each section, including at minimum a description of your competencies in relation to the objectives set in the curriculum, as well as a work certificate. In addition to the above, the decision-maker may require additional information or proof of competence.

For the 3 credits of construction site technology, the decision will be made by Markku Leino.
For the 6 credits of procurement and contracts, the decision will be made by Timo Nieminen.
For the 6 credits of operational processes, task planning, and quality planning, the decision will be made by Timo Värinen.

The grade for the accepted section is H.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The students are, when assisted, able to act as foreman for water and sewage systems and air conditioning systems installations. The students are able to recognize the fundamental concepts and methods associated with the course and are able to solve simple problems.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The students are individually able to act as foreman for water and sewage systems and air conditioning systems installations.They can create contract documents. In addition to above, the students are able to apply the fundamental concepts and methods associated with the course to simple problems in natural and technical sciences.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition to above, the students are able to use tools to create time tables.
The students are able to apply the fundamental concepts and methods associated with the course to more demanding problems in natural and technical sciences.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The students are, when assisted, able to act as foreman for water and sewage systems and air conditioning systems installations. The students are able to recognize the fundamental concepts and methods associated with the course and are able to solve simple problems.

Assessment methods and criteria

The overall grade for the course (5...0, integer) is the weighted average of the section grades based on the extent of each section.
The assessment criteria for each section are specified separately in Moodle.
In addition, to receive a grade of 1, all section grades must be passing.
