Objective

The students are able to design the heating, water and sewage, air conditioning and cooling systems for demanding buildings. They are also able to design special systems like sprinkler systems. The students are able to explain the stages of a designing process and their associated tasks and regulations and instructions, which are related to building. They are able to take into account the demands of designing on contracting, use and maintenance. They are able to use application programs and information models in design processes.

Designing and dimensioning the HVAC systems. Design tools and information models.

Location and time

Classroom instruction as scheduled in OMA.
Follow the schedule and announcements, as changes may occur.

Materials

Except for the section on fire suppression systems, the course materials are stored in the documents section of the OMA workspace.
The fire suppression systems section is an online course in Moodle starting 9.9.

Further information

The decision regarding the recognition of prior learning (AHOT) for 10 credits of HVAC design will be made by Samuli Korpi.
The grade for the accepted HVAC design portion is H, and in this case, the overall grade for the 15-credit HVAC design course will also be H.
Even if the HVAC design portion AHOT is accepted, the fire suppression systems section must be successfully completed, and a separate grade for refrigeration technology will be given based on the exam.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The students are, when assisted, able to design the heating, water and sewage, air conditioning and cooling systems for an office building and explain the operation and selection principles of specialized systems.

The students are able to recognize the fundamental concepts and methods associated with the course and are able to solve simple problems.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The students are individually able to design the heating, water and sewage, air conditioning and cooling systems for an office building. In addition to above, the students are able to apply the fundamental concepts and methods associated with the course to simple problems in natural and technical sciences.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The students are able to apply the fundamental concepts and methods associated with the course to more demanding problems in natural and technical sciences.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The students are, when assisted, able to design the heating, water and sewage, air conditioning and cooling systems for an office building and explain the operation and selection principles of specialized systems.

The students are able to recognize the fundamental concepts and methods associated with the course and are able to solve simple problems.

Assessment methods and criteria

The grade for the 12 credits of HVAC design (HVAC design, fire suppression systems) is the grade of the HVAC design project.
Additionally, the online course for fire suppression systems must be passed (H).
The grade for refrigeration technology (3 credits) is based on the exam.
The overall grade for the entire 15 credit course is the weighted average of the grades for the HVAC design and refrigeration technology sections, based on their respective credit points.
