Objective
Students
- can apply the theoretical knowledge and clinical competence required by the clinical practice environment in nursing of clients/patients

Content
Clinical Practice in nursing environment
Location and time
Clinical practice is completed after theory studies (acute nursing or clinical nursing) . Practice can be done also later on if student is not graduating. Practise must end a day before graduation at the latest
Materials
Vocational literature related to the practice environment given in connection with theoretical studies. Possible material provided by the practise unit
in HUS preliminary reading/assignments possible and time used for this cannot be taken out from practice hours.
Teaching methods
The last advanced clinical practice in acute care unit (emergency or intensive care nursing, not in ambulance) or in clinical nursing unit. The student must have successfully completed all basic clinical practices (clinical practice 1-6) priorly or given RPL. The drug calculation exam included in the theoretical studies must have been passed. Practise may be denied if the drug calculation test has not been passed.
International students clinical practise placements are agreed separately with Tiina Varamäki. Studification is a possibility.

International connections
It is possible to complete the clinical practice in an international exchange in emergency, intensive care units or perioperative units/clinical nursing units according to the instructions of Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. Student needs to approach International cordinator to organize this and take care of excahnge related matter independently.
Completion alternatives
No optional methods. RPL (not recommended unless previous work in acute care environment), studification possible. RPL application is sent to tutor teacher. Student must present a work contract as a proof and 400 hrs of RGN work accomplished (10 weeks) and self-evaluation of his/her own competencies, based on implementation competencies. RPL has to be submitted 4 weeks before practice is about to start. RPL can not be given when the practice has already started. Partial RPL is also possible.
Student workload
Clinical practice is 15 ects. The practice is 10 weeks and 400 hours. During the practice, the working methods, shifts and general principles of the work community are followed in connection with the practice. Sick leave needs to be communicated both with the practice unit by phone and supervising teacher by email. Missing hours are replaced. It is not possible to stretch the practice longer than 10 weeks.
Content scheduling
Practice is done in Autumn 2024 (pls see timing of studies chart) the practice must be completed day before the graduation date. Practice can be marked as done beforehand.
Further information
Drug calculations exam need to be passed 100% correct prior to clinical practise. Without passed drug calculations it is not possible to commence practice
